  • The Result of the EU Referendum - What next?

Following the European Union Referendum there is a certain amount of economic uncertainty and some organisations are starting or considering making cutbacks. It is important to keep your ear to the ground to see if you can pick up any signals within your own organisation, i.e. reduction in work load, loss of orders/sales, contracts not being renewed.

Stirling Careers Consultancy believes it is advisable to have your Curriculum Vitae ready just in case your organisation starts making any cutbacks. All the research suggests that if you are prepared you are more likely to make a successful transition to your next job role.  Should cutbacks occur you are prepared and ready.

It is really important to keep up-to-date with how things are developing in your profession/sector.

The first thing you need to do is start reviewing your curriculum vitae (CV).

    Reviewing your CV

Start updating your CV by targeting it at your next possible role. There are plenty of CV templates available on the Internet.

It is important to get out and about meeting people and attending targeted networking events related to your sector / profession. You can often find out about local networking events through your local Chamber of Commerce or local trade  associations. If you are a member of a profession you can start attending their events.

It is important to have a presence on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is an on-line network where many HR managers and recruiters look to recruit staff. It gives you the opportunity to connect with an organisation or person within that organisation directly. LinkedIn frequently sends out opportunities related to your skillset. LinkedIn is a useful tool for researching organisations and employees within those organisations.

You can join specific discussion groups which will give you a flavour of what is going on in your sector/profession and helps you raise your profile.

    Unsure what to do next?
